Boxers do in fact experience concussions and brain injuries as a result of their sport. The repeated blows to the head from punches can cause concussions, and over time, can lead to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and other brain injuries. While protective gear such as headgear and mouthguards can help reduce the risk of injury, they cannot completely eliminate the potential for concussions and brain damage in boxing. **

Concussions increase the risk of dementia because they can cause long-term damage to the brain. When a concussion occurs, the brain experiences a sudden jolt or impact, which can lead to the accumulation of abnormal proteins in the brain, such as tau and beta-amyloid. These proteins are associated with the development of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. Additionally, concussions can also disrupt the brain's normal functioning and lead to cognitive impairments, which may contribute to the development of dementia later in life. **

It is natural to feel concerned about concussions after hitting your head, as they can have serious consequences. It is important to monitor yourself for symptoms such as headache, dizziness, confusion, nausea, or difficulty concentrating, and seek medical attention if you experience any of these. Taking precautions to prevent head injuries, such as wearing protective gear during activities, can help reduce the risk of concussions. **
